What NYC Recessionista Wears: colorblocking and stripes

Yesterday I needed to wear something I was going to be comfortable in for a looong day — I had a dinner with coworkers after work and ended up not getting home until almost 11 p.m.

So I decided to take a simple striped t-shirt and dress it up with a pleated skirt and a statement necklace. But my choice of shoes was all about comfort.

Now, mixing stripes isn’t always the best thing to do — but because I have thinner stripes on top, and just a simple colorblock stripe on the bottom, I think this still works.

This skirt is going to be perfect for the summer months because it’s so lightweight and breezy (side note: makes me think of the“I’m breezy!” scene on F.R.I.E.N.D.S.), yet it’s still structured enough for the office.
