What NYC Recessionista Wears: Golden dots

Yesterday was one of those days where I had a hard time getting out of bed.  What can I say? I was just so darn cozy under the covers. When I finally did get up and get dressed, I decided to test out a new layering trick that I haven’t really tried before — a sweater over a dress.

I think it’s crucial to get the proportions and the silhouette just right here.  This particular pairing works because the dress has a somewhat flowy skirt, while the sweater I’ve paired it with is pretty slim fitting.

You need to make sure it’s not baggy all over, i.e. a baggy oversized sweater on top and a big full skirt on the bottom. If I was wearing a dress that had a super slim-fitting, body-hugging skirt, then an oversized sweater on top (perhaps one that hangs off a shoulder) might have been a nice contrast.
