10 Essentials for 2012

I love this article from Lucky on the 10 items you need to have in 2012.  And I thought I would share with you my personal picks for each of these trends:

1. Something Orange

This orange blazer from J. Crew is in a rich herringbone … love the texture. I think you could make this work just as easily in spring as you could in fall.

2. A Peplum Skirt

This red number from Modcloth is super playful and fun. I’d probably pair it with a voluminous or really architectural-looking top in either pale or navy blue.

3. Gold Nail Polish

My personal favorite is Glizterland from OPI. For me, I love metallics around the holidays … they just seem to make things more festive. But this is pale enough to wear every day.

4. The Little White Dress

Okay so it’s not exactly a bright white dress, but this Jessica Simpson dress with the faux sweetheart neckline and the herringbone tweed is pretty darn cute.

5. A Mesh Top

To be completely honest, mesh just reminds me of Right Said Fred.  But I think I could layer this mesh sweater from Urban Outfitters over a really proper collared button down blouse and a pencil skirt and make it work.

6. A Pastel Blazer

I really don’t wear pastels too often, so personally I would want to make sure it was still a color I could get some use out of. This pale rose blazer from Asos is close enough to a neutral.

7. A Woven Clutch

I really love the leaf pattern on this woven clutch on Etsy. It gives it such personality … and it’s just so clean and serene looking. And with the muted tones, I doubt it would overpower an outfit.

8. A Shorts Suits

I am honestly not sure if I feel cool enough to wear both pieces of a shorts suit at the same time 🙂 but I think these would be two quality tailored pieces (jacket and shorts) to have in your wardrobe.

9. Wedges

It’s no surprise that wedges are still on the list of must-haves … I love the dainty t-strap on this pair from Seychelles, as well as the bow, and the fact that they have a stacked wood heel.

10. A Flapper Frock

I don’t know how practical a “flapper” style dress would really be in this day and age, but this metallic number from Etsy definitely has a 1920s style to it and I can appreciate that.
