Spring 2014 Trends: Global

Happy Tuesday, my lovelies!  I'm back with your guide to the biggest fashion trends for spring.  There are so many fun trends to try this season, and you don't have to go broke doing it, either. For the next two weeks, I'm going to be breaking down all of the hottest trends for spring, and giving you tons of options for working them into your closet.

Tonight: we're going Global.

What to look for: If you're trying out this trend with clothes, look for interesting patterns that have a far away feel to them. They may even be embroidered or stitched, which only adds to the global feel. If it's accessories you're thinking of picking up, look for beads or natural-looking stones. If it looks like something you might have scored at a flea market or bazaar while on holiday, then you've got it.

What to wear it with: Like most of these trends, keep your other pieces understated and classic to let these pieces shine. Since these pieces are typically in bright colors, you may want to pair them with neutrals.

Here are 12 wallet-friendly globally-inspired pieces to try this spring --

What NYC Recessionista Wears: Montana inspired

My new sweater is to die for.  I love how it feels like a big cozy blanket ... and it reminds me of Montana and Big Sky Country.

Bonlook 'Martha' frames / Forever 21 tribal earrings (similar) / J. Crew Factory chambray top (similar) / LOFT wrap cardigan / watch c/o Caravelle by Bulova / J. Crew Factory ponte pants / Birkenstock sandals

The combination of the burgundy and the navy is so rich, and the pattern looks amazing no matter how the sweater falls or folds.

Kudos to LOFT for making such an amazing piece for the fall!  Next time, I want to try belting it over a dress. I think I will be living in this!

Duru Olowu for JCPenney

Over the weekend, I was able to go check out the Duru Olowu for JCPenney collection ... and it's insanely gorgeous in person.  The fabrics are really good quality and the accessories were very well done ... in all, I give this one serious snaps.

This mixed animal print dress -- made of linen which I love -- was one of the standouts of the collection for me.

This clutch is another one of my favorites. Feels and looks a lot more expensive than its price tag in person.

I loved the fit of this jacket and am really considering going back to buy it --

These bangles (here and here) and cuffs are fun and colorful for spring.

As if the whimsical leaf pattern on this incredibly chic trench wasn't enough, the fit is also superb. The same pattern is right at home on a full skirt, too.

This gorgeous floral pattern is like sunshine in a skirt.

The pattern on this bag - inspired by Native American tapestries - is so bold and beautiful. It does double duty, too, from a tote to folded over as a clutch.

This ruffle blouse would be equally at home paired with skinny jeans or tucked into one of their skirts.

The collar necklace, spike bracelets and tassel necklaces are also totally on-trend.

It'd be pretty impossible for these patterned notebooks to go unnoticed.

The fabric of this sundress (in emerald, the color of the year!) feels really luxe and I love the shape.

This may look like a skirt but it's actually shorts - genius!

The light and flowy shape of this peplum dress is gorgeous! 40s with a very modern twist ...

This bag is equal parts sophisticated, ladylike handbag and relaxed cross-body, with it's extra strap.

Tucker for Target

Almost two years later, this dress from the Tucker for Target line is still one of my favorite purchases ... the fit is great, it washes well, and I get lots of compliments on it.

And the navajo-ish pattern is still in style.

Tribal jewelry at Forever 21

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you know how much I love Forever 21 and how they are always on-point when it comes to making the latest jewelry trends (among other things) available to the masses.

Well, lately I've noticed a lot of tribal and native american inspired jewelry, so I figured I'd round them up and show you my favorites --
