You've reached NYC Recessionista ... a blog started by moi in June of 2008 after my then boyfriend politely told me he was tired of my talking his ear off about empire waists, wide leg trousers and mod-style shift dresses. We're now married and living the not-so-newlywed life in New York City. And how I get to share my obsessions with y'all :)
Aside from the fact that I love bargain shopping, style, and all things preppy and bohemian, here are some things you should know about me:
- I love reading, writing, music, movies, and comedy.
- I love the way books-- both new and old-- smell.
- I am a complete nerd, to the point where I miss buying school supplies and removing the shrink wrap from new textbooks.
- My brain has a great capacity for completely useless pieces of information-- lines from The Cutting Edge and episodes of Friends, song lyrics, phone numbers, dates, entire setlists of concerts Ive been to, and so on.
- I have never met a carbohydrate I didn't like.
- I will never pass up dessert.
- I like good coffee, good company, and good conversation. And chocolate. And Italian ices.
- I am quite the aspiring chef.
- I am completely torn between my desire to be a successful working woman and my desire to stay at home and perfect my cooking as a 1960s housewife.
- I want to be just like the women from Mad Men, with all of the dresses and afternoon cocktails and none of the misogyny.
- Deep down, I want to know if you really can have it all -- like when Jericca would touch her star earring and instantly become Jem, the lead singer of the Holograms. I'll let you know when I find out.
