Weekend Wants

Here are some things I'd love for this weekend ... a.k.a. my Weekend Wants.

1) To have a Great American Weekend ... I am upstate in my hometown and they're having their annual 4th of July festival this weekend, which I love. It's full of face painting, hay rides, Italian ices, and shopping. I plan on taking some great photos too :)

2) To do some shopping ... speaking of the festival, it's one of my favorite places to troll for handmade jewelry by local artists. One of my favorite booths is for this designer.

3) To see my hubby ... he's been working non-stop over the last several days, so I cannot wait to spend Sunday with him when he finally has off from work. I want to just chill out and relax with him.

4) To celebrate ... it's also my friend Jessica's birthday ... can't wait to give her the gift I got her and we're planning to party at a BBQ at her house :)

5) To finally get my "Mother's Day" gifts ... well, this one is done. And technically they're my "Aunt's Day" gifts. Look at what my nieces made me :)

Shop&Dry with Drybar and Piperlime

Have you ever been to Drybar? It's a blow-dry bar (such a smart concept) in NYC that I haven't been to yet, but will definitely be frequenting once my pixie haircut grows out.  One of my favorite bloggers, Joanna Goddard of 'A Cup of Jo', has a review of it on her blog if you want to get a feel for the experience.

Well, in what I consider to be a completely genius partnership, Piperlime has teamed up with Drybar to test out a new program --

Through July 31st, they'll be putting iPads (set up to shop at Piperlime) at each station. And if you should happen to buy something while you're in the chair getting beautified, Piperlime will ship your order to OVERNIGHT, FOR FREE.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

I am tardy to the party, y'all ... sorry!

It's time to announce the winner of the NYC Recessionista Blogiversary Giveaway ... and the soon-to-be recipient of a $50 Anthropologie Gift Card!

Now, just to give you some background, here's how I picked the winner: I entered all of the valid comments into an Excel spreadsheet to number them in the order in which they were received. I then went to Random.org and entered in the total number of valid comments. Its 'Random Number Generator' picked a random number from the set ... and the lucky comment is ...

... Comment #5 -- that means Beth Kaskan is our winner! Congratulations!

Please email me ASAP at nycrecessionista [at] gmail [dot] com and claim your prize.

Thanks to all who entered!

Favorite TV shows

I am a really big TV junkie ... I can't remember a time where I didn't love watching television. And I've had many favorites over the years.

When I was little, it was:

Pee-Wee's Playhouse ... I'm sorry, he's just awesome. Still funny today, too.

Then, when I got a little bit older, it was:

Clarissa Explains it All ... I loved her outfits.

The Wonder Years ... This show still makes me emotional.

Beavis and Butthead ... Again, they are still hilarious and still relevant.

Daria ... Just so incredibly smart and well-written.

Beverly Hills, 90210 ... A completely juicy, trashy guilty pleasure.

and

The State ... HI-larious.

Then later on it was:

My S0-Called Life ... This show spoke to me on so many levels. This was my adolescence.

and

Friends ... I have the lines from practically every episode memorized.

And then even later it was:

Sex And The City ... Just so very smart, funny and well-written. Makes me miss my girls.

and

What Not To Wear ... I've watched it since the first episode. They are amazing.

and now it's:

Mad Men ... Hands down the best show on television.
