Spotted at Target
When I was in Target the other night (the same night I'd scoped out those Anna Sui pieces), I also saw this adorable purple plaid dress which I now have my eye on.

My new vanity
This afternoon, I continued the never-ending task of unpacking my new apartment by setting up a little vanity table for myself. Here are some pics of my jewelry all set up --

Next, I need to figure out how to best lay out all of my makeup-- I am thinking a trip to the Container Store for some organizers may be in order.
Old Navy's 'Sweater Event'
Old Navy is advertising their vast collection of sweaters starting @ $15. Here are some of my favorites:

Shawl collar sweaters, in both belted

and buttoned styles

Cowl-neck sweater with a kimono sleeve

A very cool scoopneck sweater with a retro 70s style stripe

I tie-front pointelle cardigan that almost has a ballet sensibility to it

BREAKING: Anna Sui for Target . . . still available in the outer boroughs
Was in the Target in the Whitestone / College Point area of Queens tonight to pick up some more stuff for my new apartment, and as of 8:30 p.m. this evening there was still plenty Anna Sui for Target to be had here--
Avon calling . . .
For the last week, I have done a test drive of several items from Avon's fall line. I want to say that this is not your mother's Avon, but to be honest, it probably is your mother's Avon-- a true value brand that offers quality makeup at a very affordable price-point.

The SuperCurlacious Mascara lengthens and flips my lashes out pretty well without making them feel crusty or hard, so kudos on that.

I'm not really a lipstick fan at all (I have been carrying around Burt's Bees lip balm for as long as I can remember), but the Smooth Minerals Lipsticks are very creamy and almost feel like a lip balm -- no dryness. Malted Mineral and Plum Craze are great shades.

I love eyeliners with the built in sponge on one end that you can smudge with, like this Kohl eyeliner has, but I am sort of clumsy with eyeliner, so I usually prefer a cream eyeliner to a pencil.

Their Nocturnal nail color is also totally chic for fall -- in person to me it actually looks like a cross between a green and a beige and a brown...I love it.

I really wanted to post some pics of me actually wearing the makeup (which I am wearing today!) but they came out looking totally strange and silly-- close-ups of your eyeballs are never good. Anyway, all in all there are some great options here with Avon -- and at fantastic prices. I would definitely recommend trying some of them out for yourself!

Sellin' some stuff . . .
I am both a buyer and a seller on eBay ... usually I am stalking J. Crew jewelry to purchase for myself, but tonight I am actually selling some things that I previously purchased.
I may have even previously ranted about these purchases on this blog before... and even though these items didn't quite fit or work out for me, I certainly don't begrudge anyone else the joy of a great bargain! :)
Check these out ... maybe there's a steal or deal in there with your name on it!
These items have either been worn once or not @ all, so they are in really great condition. More items to come soon, so stay tuned!

A Double Feature: New Jewelry at Forever 21
Forever 21 .... y'all have known for awhile now that they are one of my favorite places to get the latest trends in jewelry & accessories without having to make a major monetary investment.

Well, tonight I am going to try something new ... here, on NYC Recessionista, I will take a look at the new jewelry offerings @ Forever 21. Then, over at my recently created wedding blog, A Recessionista Ties The Knot, I will take a look at the jewelry and accessories that could easily be worn for a wedding.
I don't think the bib necklace trend is going away anytime soon, and I love the chic simplicity of this one in black and sequins.

Layering a bunch of your necklaces together and mixing metals is also very popular right now, so I am loving this multi-chain necklace. Looks like they were separate necklaces all expertly thrown together at the last minute.

Another thing I love about Forever 21's jewelry? So many of them look like they were discovered in some vintage boutique or in your grandmother's stash of costume jewelry. Case in point: this plated necklace.

This fish necklace is also totally cute --- me thinks it must mean good luck or something, because it just makes me smile.

Textured gold bangles are something that to me can instantly polish an outfit -- these also have a vintage feel to them.

Could there be anything cuter than an enamel elephant ring? I don't think so.

Lastly, this set of 5 stack rings is totally Bollywood fabulous.

The deal of the century
Today on my lunch break, I thought what the hey, maybe I should stop by and check out the last day of the J. Crew Sample Sale to see if they are further discounting the goods?
Well, they weren't, but they had something even better.

They had one pair of these left in my size.

The Nottingham Boot. Rich, buttery leather. Made in Italy. Regularly $298, on sale for $99 freaking dollars! I have never moved so quickly toward a cash register.
The pencil skirt, new and improved
I took a quick trip into NY and Company tonight after work, and tried on this belted pencil skirt in this gorgeous turquoise floral print.

It totally reminded me of the Thakoon florals Michelle Obama would wear all the time during Obama's campaign.
Anyway, I was seriously considering buying it because of the great fit-- it's a classic pencil skirt, but with a slightly wider waistband and a real skinny matching belt. It has such a comfortable, yet sexy fitted look to it. But, when I realized I might not be able to get as much use out of it as say a solid color, I opted for the black version of the same skirt.

The printed version is totally chic, but I feel like I will get many more miles out of the black one.

Anna Sui for Target . . . go forth and pillage.
Anna Sui for Target is on sale in stores and online at Target.com now! Here's a link to all the looks in the collection.
I was going to buy a couple pieces, but haven't decided what I want yet!
Still unpacking . . .
We moved two weeks ago, and we are still not finished unpacking! I am so sorry for not being as regular with the blogging lately, but I am definitely still getting settled in here in our new digs. Things are fab so far, and I will be sure to share some pics once everything is in its place and we've hung our artwork :)

In the mean time, I wanted to share some recent purchases of mine --- strategically photographed in my new bathroom of course (the natural light was so good, I couldn't resist!).
1) I'd blogged earlier this month about using a Gap gift card I received for my birthday, and here's a pic of the plaid shirt I scooped up:

2) I went into Target to pick up some items for the apartment, and couldn't pass up this chic knit dress:

3) I also stopped by the latest round of the J. Crew sample sale that started this past week, and found not one, but two dresses:
This taffeta ruffle wrap dress in chocolate brown:

and this chiffon twist-tank dress in spice wine:

Right now, both of these dresses are $170 each regular price, but I got them 2-for-$150.
Not bad, huh? I am planning to wear one for my engagement photo shoot and the other for my bridal shower or rehearsal dinner.
Even more SATC filming pics
JustJared has a great collection of even more pics from the set of SATC 2 ... enjoy!
Emmy styles - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Having fun looking @ this slideshow of Emmy fashions from past years ... love getting into award shows season!
Fall Wardrobe Staples at Old Navy
Wanted to see what Fall wardrobe staples Old Navy is carrying and how they're looking--
I love a classic white button-down, and it looks like this fall it's getting a menswear-ish, safari spin.

I am also in love with the idea of a plaid shirtdress for fall, and they've got one in a rich berry color.

A printed cami like this one can take you right into late fall underneath a cardigan ... and the great thing is, you could pair this with jeans, trousers, or a skirt and get three totally different looks.

And look at Old Navy getting all sassy with their trendy scarves, like this paisley number ... excuse me!

You always need a classic black skirt, and how darling is this box pleat style?

My first plaid of the season
Just a head's up that there is a beautiful blue and purple version of this shirt in-store at Gap (not sure why it's not online), and I just scooped it up with a Gap gift card my friend Kristina gave me for my birthday :)

30 percent off select fall essentials @ BR
Banana Republic is taking 30% off select fall essentials like pants, sweaters, etc. for men and women, both online and in stores, through September 7.
What do we think?
In honor of the fact that filming for the SATC sequel is underway (look at this new gallery of photos I found!), what do we think of this bag?

Is it a Carrie Bradshaw or what? And coming in at under $100, it's definitely a big statement at a great price.
SATC 2 movie set photos!
Just stumbled upon this photo collage ... a first look @ the set of SATC the movie sequel from InStyle.com! It's only a few photos of Carrie's outfit, but I am sure this is just a hint of things to come!
New dresses @ Forever 21
While the store is not really one of my obsessions (read: it doesn't send me into a tizzy like J. Crew), I am digging these new dress offerings from Forever 21. I never used to wear dresses when I was younger, but now I realized they are just such an effortless way to look put together for work, AND can be dressed up for night just as easily.

This floral knit dress is super simple and beautiful ... love the big graphic flower print.

And this pleated dress -- which, in this gray is a great alternative to a simple black dress for work -- is pretty much flattering on everybody.

I am not totally sure how this side button dress would fall on me, but I just absolutely love it when a more masculine, work-wear inspired fabrics (this one is a nod to denim) are fancied up with ruffles. Ditto on this other denim dress.

Lastly, this floral ruffled dress, if you accessorized it right, almost plays into that whole1990's, Lisa Loeb, Alicia-Silverstone-cameo-in-an-Aerosmith video aesthetic that I love so much.
