I have definitely been wondering what the fate of Sarah Jessica Parker's Bitten clothing venture will be, especially with the recent bankruptcy (twice) of discount chain Steve & Barry's.
According to NY Magazine Blog The Cut, SJP is shopping for a new home for the line. It would be such a shame to see this great line, which I felt really understood the need to bring quality of-the-moment pieces to the masses, go under -- so I hope she finds a new home for it.
Cool fashion blog I've just discovered...
I love the fact that they haven't even moved into the White House yet and someone is already chronicling Michelle Obama's fashion & style on a new blog called Mrs. O.
Love seeing her in all that J. Crew & H&M... makes me happy.
My new favorite Web site ...
If you have never visited Etsy.com before, do yourself a favor and do it now. It's like a whole world I never knew existed. I think it might just be my one stop shop for holiday gifts year. Etsy is an online marketplace for all things handmade - which also makes me feel good about my 'think globally, act locally' shopping. You know you're supporting artists and entrepreneurs, and that what you're buying is unique and special.
Some of my favorite items---
I just purchased this necklace from a seller by the name of "Knee Highs and Pigtails" (how cute is that?) which is just sooo beautifully vintage-looking. And it was only $25!

This scarf from a seller named Appetite is so fresh and cool looking. $16 -- how can you beat that for a chic holiday gift?

And how cute is this handmade door sign for a baby's room? It's from a seller named Abitofthisandthatshop, and it's only $6.99.

I think this could be the start of an obsession.

More Designer Lines for Target
Seems as though the special designer lines for Target aren't going anywhere ... been reading all over the net, including fab fashion blog FabSugar that Target will debut a line from Alexander McQueen in March 2009.
But, not before a Christmas line from Thakoon -- a designer worn by soon-to-be First Lady Michelle Obama -- will hit stores for Christmas, this according to Nylon Mag.
Norma Kamali for Wal-Mart
Apparently there is a new line over at Wal-Mart from designer Norma Kamali.
I'd be lying if I said I had even heard of Norma Kamali before this, but apparently she is a designer who likes to focus on great cotton blends and jersey and lycra, and makes a lot of swimsuits, so I figured I'd go see what all the fuss is about.
The collection can be found here, and at first glance, it seems a lot like Isaac Mizrahi for Target, but more simplified.

What do common folk wear to movie premieres?
I have the good fortune of being invited to attend a movie premiere on Monday 11/17 in Los Angeles. Now, I like to think of myself as pretty stylish, but I wasn't sure I had anything in my closet befitting of an Hollywood movie premiere.
So naturally this presents quite the wardrobe challenge. How do I stay true to my bargain basement philosophy while looking stylish, event appropriate, and hip?
My outfit needs to strike the right chord of "I want to look great, but I know no one knows me or gives a damn who I am, so I don't want to look like I am trying too hard."
Here's what ideas I have come up with so far ---
1) A J.Crew perfect fit Crewneck T-shirt in White -- on sale at the outlets for $10.

2) A long & lean blazer from Urban Outfitters in Black (I got my bargain version on the Target clearance rack for $16).

3) Two chunky beaded ribbon necklaces from Old Navy layered together, in aqua and yellow hues. $14 each.

4) 5 pocket skinny pants from Urban Outfitters in Black (I bought these months ago for $50 and they've been my go-to pants ever since).

6) Ankle Boots from Payless in Black for $30 (I may even wear my black suede heels from Clarks, believe it or not).

Who's the more stylish First Lady?
People.com has a great photo slideshow up right now about the various style choices of both Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain.
My money is on Michelle Obama any day and twice on Sunday -- she really does know how to dress her body to its best advantage ... she looks so chic every time I see her. And hello, she's worn J.Crew and H&M on the campaign trail. Cindy McCain would probably think her flesh would burn if something from H&M touched her skin.
Gap Body
Some of the smartest purchases I've made over the last few months have been from Gap Body -- that new section you may have seen spring up in your local Gap which houses the underwear, PJs, activewear, and the swimsuits during the summer.
They have some of the best pieces for layering -- the fabrics are incredibly soft and long-lasting (many are cotton blends), they have most neutral colors which make them perfect for mixing and matching, and they take fabrics that would otherwise be considered strictly for loungewear and they are making beautifully structured pieces out of them that work great with other day pieces in your wardrobe.
Case in point --- this French Terry Belted Hoodie, which was on sale for $19.99.

It's so soft that it feels like sweats, yet it's made into this longer, belted silhouette, which could easily be worn as a sleek cardigan over a collared shirt or printed blouse, as in the photo.
Anyway, I highly recommend browsing that section next time you find yourself in the Gap -- you're likely to find incredibly cozy pieces that don't look schlumpy.
