The fashions of 'Mad Men' on a shoestring budget ...

Even though the mysogeny makes my blood boil sometimes, I am completely enchanted by 'Mad Men.' The look and feel of the show is just decadent, beautiful, and in my opinion, there is just no better time period for fashion than the early 1960s.

So, I just thought to myself -- there must be nods to the fashions of 'Mad Men' all over the place, and we don't even realize how cleverly they've been reintroduced into today's trend mix. But are they affordable?

Let's take a look, shall we?

I can easily see Joan wearing this beautiful J.Crew Purple Dress, which is on sale right now at J.Crew for $150. The color would be amazing with her complexion and hair color. And I totally want one of those gold pen necklaces she's always wearing around her neck. Total 60s secretary chic.

Any of the ladies at Sterling Cooper might be keen on the Spectator Pump from Isaac Mizrahi's collection at Target. A steal at $23!

I could easily see Pete Campbell's wife, Trudie, barging in on him in the office unannounced in this type of Old Navy Swing Coat, on sale for $59. She'd probably pair it with one of her matching pill box hats and some white gloves. Me thinks she wants to be Jackie O.

Likewise, Peggy would definitely go for this Plaid Suit Jacket from
Isaac Mizrahi's collection at Target. I'd bet she'd have the matching skirt, too. The jacket's on sale for $49.

Lastly, I would bet my hard earned money that today's Betty Draper would shop at three places -- Brooks Brothers, Talbots, and J.Crew -- where she might scoop up this Dream Ruffle Herringbone Cardigan, on sale right now for $89. I can completely envision her wearing it with black cigarette pants, ballet flats, and her big pearls.

Ladies ... the fashions of 'Mad Men' are everywhere, and with good reason -- they are timeless, figure-flattering, rich feminine styles that should be embraced and invested in. And you don't have to spend too much money to get yourself a little piece of the 60s, either.

The coolest earrings I've seen in a long time ...

Went to a really cute little craft fair in Brooklyn on Sunday, and saw these completely awesome earrings made from vintage cardboard milk bottle caps. Such great designs and such a fresh idea for jewelry.

Definitely check out their Web site at www.MilkMade.etsy.com
to see all the great styles they have.

Some of my personal faves --

1) A totally deco-in-feeling pair -- Pasteurized Milk Earrings, $20.

2) How completely adorable are these Whipping Cream Earrings? Also $20.

3) I also can't resist these Try Our Chocolate Milk Earrings, also again just $20.

They combine pretty much everything I like ... vintage design, jewelry, and milk. Now if only I weren't lactose intolerant.

Comme des Garcon for H&M

Los Angeles-based shopping blog Racked LA has posted a great gallery of photos previewing the newest designer line for H&M -- Comme des Garcon.

The stuff looks really cute and all.... but the only strange thing-- it's a line for H&M, so me thinks a $350 price point for a dress is a tad high. Can we please get a recession special?

New Target collections are online now!

Retail alert!

They've put the new collection of Sigerson Morrison for Target shoes online earlier than scheduled! They're a little dressier and more rock 'n' roll in feeling than I thought they'd be ...

On the other hand, Anya Hindmarch's collection of handbags for Target look like fantastically 70s vintage.

Michelle Obama wears H&M!

How cool is it that Michelle Obama, a potential future 1st lady, is wearing an H&M dress on the campaign trail that cost $34.90?! And you know what -- she looks good in it, too.
